The school
Quality training, and we mean it plainly
You will hear us mention ‘Quality training’ often, as T.S.M. has never needed to offer anything other than this, because we believe that what people want is to learn to ride a motorcycle well.
Taunton School of Motorcycling commenced training in 1996 and thanks to its reputation has continued to thrive in its core business: quality training in riding a motorcycle. A family run business, with the emphasis on quality riding tuition, more than just training to pass the test.
What we are not, and who to ask instead
For example, if you want track days then there are companies with staff specifically trained & equipped at the tracks to offer you this. If you want advanced training, then organisations such as I.A.M or R.o.S.P.A. can provide reputable, quality-assured training & testing with nationally recognised, insurance-reducing qualifications at extremely competitive prices.
But you want to learn to ride a motorcycle well & to pass your test, well, that’s where we come in!
Where the off-road work happens
Because we utilise Taunton Town Football Club to conduct the off-road elements, occasionally CBT’s on Saturdays during the football season commence at 08:00.
We frequently hear “I came to your school, but it was closed!” & that’s probably because we were all out on-road training! Roughly 09–10 and 3–4. Closed most Sundays and every Monday.

I can only think of one word to sum up my experience with TSM – Faultless. Not a word I’d use to describe my riding before Tracey got hold of me. The relaxed, calm, and welcoming atmosphere she works so hard to provide cut straight through the day-one nerves and before I knew it I was out and riding better than I’d ever managed before. The skills she taught me, built up through miles of on-road practice, enabled me to easily achieve the standard needed to pass both parts of the test. My fear of the ‘dreaded’ swerve manoeuvre was laid to rest on my very first ride when Tracey pointed out I’d been happily avoiding drain covers and Taunton’s assorted potholes all day using that very technique. This kind of positive feedback and constructive critique of my riding enabled me to concentrate on specific weaknesses and hone strengths I didn’t even realise I had. To say she’s made me into a better, safer, more confident rider doesn’t come close to the praise Tracey deserves.
Having experienced taster days at other motorcycling schools, I arrived at TSM expecting a similar sort of teaching; too much encouragement, not enough reality. I quickly learnt that Tracey has a very different style. Yes, of course the encouragement was there but it was always swiftly followed with honesty and realism; if there was something I was struggling with, it was openly pointed out and discussed so that I knew precisely where I had to improve.
